San Diego EarthWorks individuals and non-commercial organizations to exhibit their energy-efficient and alternative-fuel vehicles at the 19th annual EarthFair on Sunday, April 20, 2008 the world’s largest free annual environmental fair and Earth Day celebration!
Our dependence on the inefficient internal-combusion engine is a continuing threat to our environment and quality of life. With the concern over global warming and rising fuel prices, people are looking for ways that they can make better transportation choices. The Cleaner Car Concourse (CCC) is a great opportunity to share alternative eco-friendly transportation options with thousands of San Diegans.
Please note that this year there will be no vehicle parade - only the show. Despite the parade's flawless safety record, the Fire Marshall has imposed conditions that make the continuation of the vehicle parade impossible.
Who May Participate?
We restrict the show to vehicles that use alternative fuels (e.g., solar, electric or bio-fuels), or are highly energy-efficient (e.g., hybrids).
The CCC is open to all individuals, groups, organizations, schools, etc. that are not involved in selling and have no financial interest in the vehicle being displayed. There is no charge to participate in the Cleaner Car Concourse.
Note: for-profit organizations involved in the sales or commercial promotion of a particular vehicle may participate, but must register as a regular EarthFair exhibitor and pay the required fees. Click here for EarthFair exhibitor registration information.
Where and When Does The Show Take Place?
The CCC takes place at EarthFair 2008 on April 20, 2008, from 10am - 5pm. Setup is from 8:00am to 9:00am. (The police will close the roads to vehicles promptly at 9:00am; they will remain closed until the end of the fair - so don't be late!)
The CCC is located in the Pan American Plaza (Area 7) in Balboa Park, just south of the UN cottage area. (click here to see a map)
What is the Show Space Like?
The CCC takes place in a parking lot. EarthWorks will provide tables and chairs; exhibitors should bring any additional display materials that they will need. Vehicles will be spaced to allow easy walk-around access and viewing. Please contact EarthWorks directly if you have any special or unusual setup or display requirements.
Is There Anything Else I Need to Know?
San Diego EarthWorks reserves the right to decline any application. In particular, we limit the number of vehicles of a particular make/model; first come, first served.
Just having a vehicle in the show is not enough visitors will want to ask questions and know all about it. Please have your vehicle "staffed" at all times. We recommend having several people to share this jobs so you don't get worn out during the day. Simple signs that detail the environmental benefits of the vehicle are a plus.
The show is on a parking lot, which can be hot on a warm day. Bring a hat and sunscreen. And, it can be windy or chilly, so have a sweater or coat ready.
The Fire Marshall has imposed the following conditions on CCC vehicles:
- The tank of vehicles powered with gasoline or other flamable liquids must be less than 1/3 full;
- The vehicles must not be moved during the show. Keys for vehicles must be held by the CCC manager and will be returned at the end of the show.
We will provide specific setup and breakdown instructions about 3 weeks before the fair. You will be able to download them from the on-line registration system (see below).
This year, for the first time, San Diego EarthWorks will be handling all EarthFair Applications via a new on-line registration system. Exhibitors will be able to fill-out their Exhibitor Application on our website, review and change their application at any time, and can download their event logistics information before the fair. The savings in postage and wasted paper will be substantial. And, by not having to re-type your information we expect to provide a higher level of service.
To use the system, you do need to have an email account that you use regularly. If you don't have or use email, please call the office at 858-272-7370.
